Moore Park is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It lies along both sides of St. Clair Avenue East between the Vale of Avoca section of Rosedale ravine and Moore Park ravine (formerly Spring Valley ravine). The northern boundary is Mount Pleasant Cemetery and the southern the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. It is a nature's paradise with surrounded by trees and ravines
The neighbourhood takes its name from its developer, John T. Moore. To encourage buyers, he built two bridges in 1891: the original steel bridge on St. Clair over the Vale of Avoca, and the original wooden bridge on Moore Avenue over Spring Valley ravine. He also helped establish railway service to the neighbourhood.
This area's residents are mainly in the middle to upper income bracket and as a result the houses reflect this. Moore Park was annexed by the old City of Toronto in 1910.The Don Valley Pressed Brick Works, started by the Taylor family in 1891, was located just east of the ravine. Although later sold and renamed, the factory continued to manufacture bricks and became one of Ontario's oldest and longest operating brickworks, finally closing its kilns in 1988
In the early 1900s, builders sloffed off the elaborate Victorian styles. Homes for the new century were simpler and a little less formal with styles such as English Cottage, Georgian and Tudor. Currently there are many new townhouses. The houses sit on generous size lots with private and mutual drives
Moore Park Ravine follows a small tributary of the Don River. The ravine is
well-known for its walking, cycling path and natural habitat. You will find many dog walkers and cyclists joining up to other bike paths in the city, and is enjoyed by visitors throughout the year and can be entered from Moore Avenue east of Hudson Drive, or at the south end just west of Bayview Avenue. Moore Park Tennis Club offers five hard courts, club house and picnic area.
Mount Pleasant Cemetary follows a plan developed in the late nineteenth century to provide an arboretum for public enjoyment with many miles of walking paths, interspersed with fountains, statues, botanical gardens, and one of the finest rare and distinct tree collection. As the final resting place of more than 168,000 persons, Mount Pleasant Cemetery contains remarkable architecture amongst its many monuments
